The PFA Rescue Center is envisioned as a transit point where needy animals come in, overcome their physical and emotional trauma, and live on till they go to good loving homes for the rest of their lives. It is also a permanent home to aged animals and those with special needs. The sprawling 1.47 acre campus has ample space to house and take care of homeless, sick and injured animals. The land was purchased for PFA by the Chairperson, Mrs. Maneka Gandhi, and construction was partly financed by the Animal Welfare Board of India.
The rescue center operates in a non-polluting, environment friendly manner and has the clearance of the Pollution Control Board. Over the years, PFA rescue center has facilitated the rescue of countless animals including dogs, cats, bulls, horses and birds. The rescue center is designed such that the animals have plenty of space and freedom. Confinement and restraints are used only when absolutely necessary. The Center offers a peaceful and pleasant ambience for the inmates and the animal lovers who visit us. The facilities include;
PFA operates a veterinary hospital in the rescue center premises. The hospital is equipped for trauma care, animal treatment and surgical procedures. We regularly perform Animal birth control surgeries, other major soft tissue surgeries and treatment of rescued animals. We provide low cost medical care to owned pets as well as farm animals, free medical care for pets of the poor and community dogs.
People for Animals India (PFA) runs a strong and effective Animal Cruelty Response Wing that addresses all forms of cruelty—from domestic animals to captive wild animals.
Our team responds to individual, social, and institutional violence, and also intervenes when animal caretakers are threatened or attacked. Every case is handled strictly through legal channels to ensure maximum justice.
We work under the provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. A dedicated call service is available for reporting cruelty and seeking immediate assistance.
