Contrary to SC order of 2025 street dogs issue cannot be “solved” by mass sheltering. Removing dogs from their territories only creates empty spaces that quickly attract new, unsterilized dogs. This cycle never ends and the problem returns. Large-scale confinement also leads to outbreak of Zoonotic diseases, overcrowding, spreading of new strains of communicable diseases, stress, and suffering for the animals.
Animal Birth Control (**Animal Birth Control Programme – ABC) is the only proven solution. Sterilized and vaccinated dogs remain in their territories but cannot reproduce. Over time, the population declines naturally and safely. This method has worked wherever it has been implemented consistently.
Regular community feeding is equally important. Fed dogs are calmer, healthier, and less likely to scavenge or become aggressive. Feeders also help monitor vaccination and sterilization. ABC plus responsible feeding reduces conflict and creates stable coexistence.
