For many years, PFA has been actively pursuing legal action to ensure justice and protection for animals. We have a strong team of counsels in the High Court and lower courts who are well-equipped to handle animal rights cases. Some of our key litigations, in chronological order, are listed below:
2015
Legal intervention to ensure the safety and freedom of the tuskers Parassala Sivasankaran and Neyyattinkara Kannan, under the custody of the Travancore Devaswom Board.
2018
Request release of Neelakandan, the captive elephant of Sasthamkotta Temple, and facilitated his transfer to Wildlife SOS for rehabilitation.
2021
Legal action supporting the right to keep companion animals, ensuring that dogs are allowed in apartments and gated communities.
2022
Intervention leading to the shifting of a group of buffaloes to rehabilitation, saving them from slaughter.
2023
Obtained a stay order against capturing and turning the wild elephant Arikomban into captivity.
Intervention for the release of PT7.
Petition seeking an enquiry into the abuse and tragic death of the captive elephant Chirakkara Kalidasan of Chirakkara Devaswom.
2024
Petition requesting the revocation of a Forest Department order granting honorary powers to kill wild boar.
2025
Petition seeking a ban on the use of captive elephants in “running amok” cases (filed with Samasrishti).
2026
Petition requesting the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation to stop shifting stray dogs to illegally run shelters (filed with Samasrishti).
Legal intervention for shifting Lakshmi, the elephant of Amritapuri Ashram, to a rehabilitation facility (filed with Samasrishti).Apart from these, our Animal Cruelty Response Team has filed numerous cases in local police stations addressing cruelty against animals. Many of these cases are currently under various stages of legal proceedings.
